New Allio LCD HDTV-PCs announced
The Allio LCD HDTV-PC has just entered its second generation life cycle, where just like its predecessors, the Allio 2.0 products will come in 42″ and 32″ high-definition LCD form factors, although you can be sure that the internals will boast a change for the better. Within the chassis, Allio has thrown in a wide range of integrated PC configuration, where you can choose from the all-in-one Allio Lite and Allio Media Center.The Allio Lite will see the integration of an Intel Atom-based PC architecture into the HDTV, paving the way for a cost-effective point-of-entry into the converged PC TV experience right smack in the middle of your living room. These basic models will come with modest processing power that is on par with that of a netbook, although you do benefit from a far larger display while sacrificing portability. Netbooks these days are powerful enough to handle everyday computing tasks including checking email, surfing the Web, or performing other lightweight Windows-based computing tasks. These can be done with the TV running in the background thanks to a similar interface, allowing you to catch the latest, breaking news as it happens without missing a beat. For those who want more juice, the all-new more powerful version of the Allio Lite HDTV PC will offer Blu-ray support and an integrated nVidia GeForce 9400 chipset for improved graphics performance that is able to handle some games as well.The Allio Standard will come with Dual Core SKUs based on Intel’s PDC E6300 and Core2Duo E8400, and if you need to squeeze out additional processing firepower, you can always drop more dough by settling for the Core 2 Quad Q8400 option, turning the Allio in to a machine that can not only work well, but give you the opportunity to unwind with a round of World of Warcraft after a long, hard day at the office. You won’t find a tray loading optical drie any more, as it will now come with an elegant slot loading DVD/Blu-ray solution. A third HDMI port and a second set of AV and audio inputs were also thrown in on the side access panel for better convenience when it comes to hooking up to Allio to your home theater system. Expect prices to start from $1,299 for the entry-level 32″ Allio Lite, while those who want all the bells and whistles can settle for the $2,999 42″ Quad Core all-in-one Allio Media Center with Blu-ray.

Sanyo offers clock radios that work with iPods
Sanyo has introduced a couple of new audio systems to the masses, with the DMP-P1 a Cube Alarm Clock Radio with an iPod docking station and the DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System, with two docking stations allowing two iPods or an iPod and iPhone to be played and recharged simultaneously. These stylish systems are sure to sell if the price is right which we’ll reveal at the end of the post, but in the meantime, do take a look at what both devices are able to offer to the consumer. The Sanyo DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System will come with an AM/FM Digital Stereo Tuner with Dual Programmable Alarms, letting to customize your wake-up experience by choosing a tune from your favorite playlist from an iPod or iPhone, or decide to let the friendly banter of the DJ on a morning radio show to do the job. Nice to know there is the all important sleep and snooze modes for added convenience just in case you’re the type who needs more than a single alarm ring to get you up and running. Familes with multiple devices will also find the DMP-692 to be handy as it makes room for a couple of iPods and/or iPhones to juice up simultaneously, helping you save both time, money and additional desk space. Not only that, the iPod/iPhone can still be used to play back your tunes when recharging.As for the DMP-P1 Cube Alarm Clock Radio, this device comes with an AM/FM PLL Digital Tuner with Programmable Alarm Clock, offering a similar customized wake-up experience as the DMP-692, although it does not fare as well as its more feature-rich sibling by coming with only one iPod dock. At least this iPod dock will let you play back your tunes while charging it up at the same time for added convenience. Buttons are located at the top for easy access. Both models will be heading towards the online Sanyo store as well as selected retailers in the US from later this month onwards, with the Cube Alarm Clock Radio and Dual Dock Music System going for$39.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Hands on Review of the 3M MPro 120 Pocket Projector
sent me their latest pocket projector, the MPro 120, and I was more than happy to give it a hands-on review. (By the way, that isn’t my hand in the photo, but an image included in the Press Release.) Since this is my first time with a pocket-projector, you might notice that I am a little excited about it. The MPro 120 works with surprising ease on my laptop computer. All I had to do was plug it into the wall to recharge the battery, and two hours later, it is good for about two to four hours worth of projection time. Then I plugged it into my laptop, and set it up as a secondary monitor. From there, I was able to get an image as wide as 50 inches, and it looked very clear on a blank wall in the dark. The MPro120 came with a tripod for theater-like setup, and I was able to watch some shows from Hulu as if they were movies on the big screen. That really helped bring the FlashForward show to life. The sound wasn’t all that great, even turned up at loud levels. If you are going to use the MPro 120 for audio presentations, then I highly recommend bringing a speaker like that one from Sharper Image. You are also going to need to get yourself some extra connectors if you want to project files from your iPod or iPhone, because the MPro 120 does not come with attachments for Apple products. Last time I checked on Amazon, the going rate for a 3M Pro 120 is about $319.50. That is a small price to pay for a cheap home theater setup.
UK: Motorola Dext to be released from 7th October on Orange
The Motorola Dext will be available free on a two year contract for £34.26($55) per month, the package includes 900 call minutes, unlimted text, inclusive anytime internet browsing and also access to Orange Maps.
To recap some of the specs of the Motorola Dext; MOTOBLUR - Motorola’s new unique interface designed to help manage and integrate communications on top of Android, a QWERTY keypad, a 3.1 inch HVGA display with a resolution of 320 x 480 and connectivities such as EDGE, GPRS, WiFi, a five megapixel camera with autofocus, and a 3.5mm headphone socket. It is available in both black and white.

The iPod is truly a phenomenal device, and it has spawned hundred of accessories in the past to accommodate the iPod in various circumstances, even when underwater with a waterproof case and waterproof headphones. Well, this time round we have the Portable iPod Outdoor Speaker that is not only waterproof, it is also shock and dust resistant, making it suitable for outdoor parties by the pool or even in the harsh Arabian deserts. It plays nice with the iPod Classic, Nano, Mini and Shuffle series, stowing the iPod behind a clear, watertight door while offering controls through a set of exterior buttons. A quartet of C batteries power it, but you can also hook it up to an AC or car adapter if the need arises. Sounds like $99.50 well spent, this.
The iHome iHM10B Portable MP3 Player Speaker System
It seems with back to school creeping closer and closer, more companies are releasing new sets of speakers to go with students as they had into college. Just like several of the others that have been seen, these come in everything from black to the brightly colored. They also feature colors that match your iPod Nano. These keep things pretty small and minimal, so they could easily be tucked back at the corner of your desk or dresser. That makes them a nice addition for students stuck in a dorm this coming semester.
It appears that they are all out of black, but they do have pink, purple, silver, red and blue. It will not only play your iPod, but you can connect any other audio devices you have. The device is battery operated and requires 4 AA batteries. They don’t mention if it can be plugged in, but one would hope it would come with that option. You can purchase it online for $24.99.
First iPhone 3GS Spy software rolled out

Retina-X Studios, LLC, was first off the blocks with a spy software for the iPhone, and has recently announced the immediate availability of Mobile Spy version 3.0 for the recently released Apple iPhone 3GS. Apparently, there is no other spy software that is currently compatible with the iPhone 3GS, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that Retina-X Studios’ efforts will not be in vain, but will instead be able to be all it is meant to be. This unique spy software is able to enable users to silently track GPS locations, SMS messages and calls of children or employees using a secure online control panel. Sounds as though one’s privacy has been violated, but then again parents ought to have better control and keep tabs on their kids instead of leaving them to the nanny, TV and peers throughout the formative years. Mobile Spy will operate in complete stealth mode and there won’t be any mention of the program whatsoever on the iPhone 3GS. The software will quietly run in the background behind all other applications. The moment the software is set up, it will get to work straightaway without the need for any prompting, silently recording the entire text of all SMS text messages, information about each call and actual GPS positions. We’re guessing this will be a popular software to use when it comes to warring couples who are suspicious of one another’s movements at work or when out of town, although we’re not too sure just how such evidence will hold up in the divorce court for grounds of infidelity. All logged activities will be silently uploaded to the user’s secure online account, where these accounts can be securely checked online from virtually any web browser without the need to access the handset. All activity logs can be viewed in real time the moment they are recorded including complete texts and maps of GPS positions. Mobile Spy is compatible with all iPhone models and smartphones powered by Windows Mobile or the Symbian OS operating system.
iPod Dock stacks on interchangeable gadgets
With reading about concept designs, you never know what you’re going to get. Sometimes they’re fairly reasonable and then there are others that are just far fetched and ridiculous. Then there are those you just hope the technology is out there to make it possible, because it would make things far more simple. Which is where this design would fall into. It is a dock for your iPod, but it allows for other things to be stacked along with it, besides just ordinary speakers.
You could choose how many speakers you wanted, along with adding a couple of things you might not expect. Things like a light to give a nice glow along with your tunes, as well as an air purifier. Adding an air purifier to it would make it so that you didn’t have a separate purifier cluttering up your desk. The design was created by Sang-hoon Lee. It may never make it to an actual store, but it’d definitely be nice if it did.
The Einstein Sound Master Photon Ball iPod Dock
If you’re on the lookout for a dock, this one definitely has a little bit of that mad scientist appeal that would definitely keep life interesting. The colors within the ball on it will actually move about along with the beat of the music. Which would give a cool lighting effect while you’re listening to your favorite songs. While you’re becoming entranced with the shining bright lights, your iPod gets to sit on the dock and charge up.
Not only can it charge and be played through the dock, but you can also hook it up to your computer to have it synced with your computer. The dock also has a clock on it, which has an alarm that allows for you to wake up to the music directly from your iPod. If you’ve had enough of your iPod, you can switch modes and listen to the AM/FM radio instead. It actually claims that it will work with any iPod, that can hook up to a dock, so yours should work with this. You can purchase it for $34.99.
iPhone 3Gs 3.0 is sure to irk Apple
The iPhone 3GS was just unveiled by Apple last week at WWDC in San Francisco, and while it did not set the world alight like the original iPhone did a couple of years ago, we’re pretty sure that it is going to do pretty well on the sales front simply because it is an iPhone and bears the famous Apple trademark, being simple and intuitive to use in addition to its versatility compared to other more business-oriented smartphones. Well, one of the major drawbacks would be having to consign oneself to a 2-year contract if you want to get the iPhone 3GS for a cheap price, otherwise an unlocked unit will burn quite a big hole in your pocket. There is a method to circumvent this, however, with a new SIM card that will make unlocking the latest iPhone 3GS handsets a snap in a much simpler process than ever before.
Known as the 3Gs 3.0 Unlock Sim for the Apple iPhone, this product is as dummy-proof as it can get, being one of the simplest and most reliable solutions to date that plagues iPhones locked to AT&T as a network provider. Just like a magical master key, the 3Gs 3.0 Unlock Sim is able to slot straight up on any existing SIM card in your iPhone 3GS, where it will function as some sort of ‘key’ to unlock iPhone 3Gs 3.0, hence making it compatible with virtually any other SIM card that has been inserted.
According to company director Mark Scott, “Our Unlock Solution will add the Cydia and Installer Application to your iPhone. This will allow you to add thousands of free applications to your iPhone, like games, utilities, tools, NES emulators, custom springboards and the list goes on. Cydia and Installer are similar to the iPhone Appstore, except all the applications are completely free.”
MLB Scores with iPhone Baseball Fans
MLB at bat will stream live ball games to your iPhone or iPod. Batter up.
Major League Baseball has given the green light for an iPhone application which will allow live streaming of baseball games. Called MLB at bat, the application takes full advantage of the new streaming capability of the iPhone 3.0 software, will cost around $10 and will work on both the iPhone or iPod Touch.
Users will not only be able to watch live games, but also listen to the audio feed if they want to save on battery power (and a full nine innings will sure kill the battery long before the last out on video streaming), get Game day updates and in game video highlights.
Since the iPhone 3.0 update has been pushed out as of today, the application is available now - just in time for MLBs first live streaming game, the Chicago Cubs vs. the Chicago White Sox at 2:20pm eastern time as part of a double header which also includes the Detroit Tigers vs. the St. Louis Cardinals at 8:15pm ET.
But don’t look for the Dodgers or Yankees to be coming to an iPod near you soon, MLB wants to roll out streaming gradually by only broadcasting “out of market” games - i.e., Yankee fans don’t get the Yanks and Dodger fans don’t get Chavez Ravine
Philips Wake-Up Light with Dock for iPod
For those of you that don’t need those extremely loud alarm clocks, it might be nice to wake up in a much more calm manner. With this Philips Wake-Up Light, you can wake up a little more gradually, instead of getting a very abrupt start to your day. All the while it can charge and play your iPod or iPhone by utilizing the built-in dock. It might not be something that would be ideal if you’re sharing the bed with someone though. Especially since the light does get brighter over a slightly extended period of time.
It takes it a total of 30 minutes to reach the maximum amount on the light. Which means you set the alarm for one time and it starts preparing you before that alarm ever goes off. Once it does go off, you can set it to wake you up with nature sounds, the FM radio or with music directly off of your iPod or iPhone. The light can also be turned on to be used as a bedside lamp. So although it is a slightly bulky clock, you won’t have a need for a lamp to be on the end table as well. You can purchase the clock for $199.99 from Amazon
The iPod DJ Mixer
For those of you that can’t just sit back and enjoy the music on your iPod, there is this DJ Mixer. Of course you’ll also have to know someone that has a second iPod in order for this to work, but I doubt that’ll be too much of an issue. It’ll also work with random MP3 players, so if you have a spare MP3 player you could always use an iPod and an MP3 player. Although for those of you with music on your iPhone, it doesn’t say specifically that it’s compatible with the iPhone.
If you’re purchasing this for an iPod though, you could always give an iPhone a whirl and see how it works with the device. It is officially compatible with the iPod Touch, iPod Nano 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations, the iPod Classic 4th and 5th generations as well as the iPod Mini. It will actually charge up those iPods while it’s hooked up to the mixer, but it won’t charge your average MP3 player for obvious reasons. It includes an AC adapter and a set of headphones that fold up. You can purchase the DJ Mixer for $120.
Trick Camera Lenses for your iPhone
Just because you’re taking pictures through your phone camera, doesn’t mean they can’t have an artistic flare to them. Now you can have that artistic twist added as soon as you take the picture with these various lenses. All of which have their individual effects that they add to the picture, some are a little cheesy, others are a bit more subtle. The lenses are affordable, so you might as well pick up a few of them and have fun playing with your photographs.
These come in a total of 5 different forms. There is the green wide angle lens, which you can guess what that does. There is then the blue kalediscope lens, the sparkle lens and a heart lens that adds the outline of a heart around the edges. There is also the starburst version, which is probably my favorite out of the bunch of them. You can check out how they will look on a picture when you go to the seller’s website. Logitech is a famous name where home computing speakers are concerned, and they certainly deserve the accolades they’ve garnered in the past with some quality releases. This time round we have a couple of models for those who are interested - the Logitech Rechargeable Speaker S315i and the Logitech Portable Speaker S125i. Both models are touted to boast exceptionally long battery life, where the former is able to keep on going for up to 20 hours non-stop before requiring a recharge, while the latter lets you crank up the bass around your home, no matter whether you’re in your bedroom, kitchen, living room or even your backyard.
The Logitech Rechargeable Speaker S315i is able to provide you with virtually a full day’s worth of continuous music playback on but a single charge, where its power saving mode even stretches its performance to touch the mentioned 20 hour mark. Apple releases new iPod touch
Just like the new generation of iPod nano was announced earlier this morning, so do we have news of a new iPod touch as well, pushing the device into the third generation. One thing that would disappoint most people about this would be the lack of a built-in digital camera after being hyped up about it through various rumors and fan sites over the past weeks and months, but guess there is always the anticipation of seeing said integrated digital camera make an appearance sometime in the future with the fourth iteration of the iPod touch. What’s cooking with this generation of iPod touch? We’ll take a closer look at it right after the jump.
According to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, “At just $199 the iPod touch is the most affordable gateway to Apple’s revolutionary App Store with more than 75,000 applications that you can wirelessly download right into your iPod touch. You get a great iPod, a great pocket computer with the industry’s best mobile web browser and a great game player, all in this super-thin beautiful enclosure.”
Yes, that’s right – prices for the new iPod touch will start from $199 upwards for the 8GB model, where those who feel that they need more space can always fork out slightly more for the 32GB and 64GB models that will retail for $299 and $399, respectively. Too bad for those who just picked up an iPod touch yesterday, getting half the capacity at the same price – good things always come to those who wait, eh? In this case, it pays to be well informed ahead of time, especially with companies like Apple who announce upcoming events ahead of time so that you can stop your purchase before a particular date if it isn’t too much of a rush.
iPod nano updated
So the yearly cycle continues, with yet another iPod being updated this time round. Apple’s event at San Francisco saw the appearance of Steve Jobs to the masses, and it goes without saying the man had a hand in unveiling the latest iPod nano to the crowds, now in its fifth iteration. What makes the iPod nano so special this time round? Well, Apple has decided to throw in a video camera, a microphone and a speaker to what is already deemed as the most popular portable media player in the world, allowing music aficionados to shoot short video clips (limited by its memory, of course) regardless of where they are. These video clips can then be viewed over the computer after performing a quick and painless transfer, and further uploaded onto YouTube if you’re so inclined.
According to Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, “iPod nano is the world’s most popular music player with over 100 million sold. And now we’ve added a video camera to its incredibly thin design, without any additional cost to the user.” New owners of the 5G iPod nano will be pleased to know that it comes with a larger 2.2″ display to make navigation easier on the eyes, while you get to enjoy more album art alongside the ability to shoot and view video clips in a jiffy. Apple has also included fun real-time effects in one’s video content including Thermal, Film Grain, Kaleido and X-Ray without the need to process it all over again using specialized software on a computer later on. Other features include an integrated FM radio with live pause and iTunes Tagging, where the former enables users to pause and resume playing their favorite FM radio shows – handy for various situations, while the latter lets you keep tabs on a song you like but can’t quite catch the title, letting you preview and purchase that tagged song on iTunes later on.
The fifth generation iPod nano will come in silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange and pink color choices, retailing for $149 for the 8GB model while the 16GB model is going for $179.
