Sell Wine To Provide Books To The Needy Says Twitter
Unfortunately, as you may know, there are children and even adults around the world who struggle to read even the most basic words. Most of the time, this isn’t their fault but it’s down to the fact that they simple cannot afford to go to school and learn. Simple fact, most people are aware of it.
Twitter decided to “grow in the right direction” by starting up Fledgling Wine. What will they be doing? Selling Wine bottles cheap ($20 instead of $50) and $5 of each bottle will be going to Room to Read who provide resources to the worlds poorest children so they can have an education.
The co-founders of Twitter, Biz Stone and Evan Williams said on the Fledgling blog, “The fledgling Initiative embodies two things that are at the core of Twitter’s mission, providing access to information and highlighting the power of open communication to bring about positive change.”
There are two wines which are already available for pre-order online and will be released in Auguest 2010: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As I’ve already said, they are normally $50 but they will be reduced to $20 so everyone can buy a bottle and of course $5 of every bottle sold will be given to Room to Read who will then go to help people. The grapes are apparently being picked by the Twitter staff which is pretty funny to be honest, are going to be fermented.
Noah Dorrance, executive of Crushpad, makers of the new brand of Twitter wine said he has ordered extra grapes. He was asked if each bottle will contain only 140 grapes, he laughed and said, “I wish! There are approximately 800 grapes per bottle.”
So what does this mean for Twitter? Why are they suddenly deciding to do all this? Well this is what Biz said on the Twitter blog:
